Your First Visit
New to Saint Paul? Here is some great information about our church and what to expect during your first visit.
Q: When are your services?
A: See our Opportunities to Worship page.
Q: Where do you meet?
A: We meet in our newly remodeled church located at 100 S. School Street in Mount Prospect, Illinois. See our maps page for details.
Q: How should I dress?
A: We have a friendly and casual atmosphere, but dress the way you feel most comfortable, from jeans to business casual to suit and tie. But don't worry about what you are wearing. We're more concerned with meeting your real life needs than with what you wear.
Q: Do I need to bring anything?
A: No, but feel free to bring a Bible or a pen and note pad to take notes. Be sure to pickup a worship folder from one of the ushers when you arrive. The service outline and all of the readings and prayers are printed there for you.
Q: Will I have to stand up and introduce myself?
A: Newcomers and visitors do not have to introduce themselves during the worship services. However, you will have a chance to meet the people around you at some point in the service and we would love to talk to you following any of the services or in a small group bible study.
Q: What is the service like?
A: We have a variety of service styles ranging from traditional to contemporary. Typical services include time for hymns or worship songs, bible readings and a main message or sermon (Check out our Audio Sermons online). The entire service usually lasts a little more than an hour.
Q: What is the music like?
A: Music during our traditional services usually features a choir or handbells and hymns are usually accompanied by the organ. Contemporary services are lead by a five to ten-person worship team, keyboard, guitar, and drums.
Q: Where do I park?
A: The church has a small parking lot on the south side of the building. There is also plenty of street parking available.
Q: Where should I go once inside the building?
A: Just follow the crowd. Feel free to mingle around once inside. There will be greeters and ushers to direct you to the main santuary.
Q: What about the offering?
A: We pass an offering plate during the service so that our worship may include bringing gifts to God. This is completely voluntary and is intended for our members. Visitors should not feel obliged to participate.
Q: Where do the kids go?
A: Saint Paul has a program for kids age 3 through 5th grade in the school during the 9:20 Sunday service. SPROUTS is our Sunday morning education, teaching children basic Bible stories, singing, playing games and doing crafts. It's full of fun and learning. Students ages 3 – grade 2 meet in the preschool area for singing at the beginning of the hour, and students grades 3 – 5 meet upstairs. Ask an usher to help direct you.
During the 10:40 worship hour students age 3 – grade 2 will go to worship with their parents for the first part of the service. Following the message for children, we'll lead them to the preschool area where we'll meet. Parents will come down to the room to pick up their student immediately following the worship service.
Q: I'm worried that I will feel out of place
A: We hope that our web site will ease your mind but if you have a question, please ask someone for help. Don't hesitate to say, "I am new. What is this about?" Our congregation is very friendly and are happy to have the chance to welcome new visitors. There are always other visitors at each service so you shouldn't feel alone.
Q: I don't know that much about the Bible
A: That's what we're here for! Church and Bible Study are opportunities to grow in our knowledge of the Bible and faith in Jesus. You don't have to know anything about the bible or even any religion to attend a service.
Q: I come from a non-Christian or non-Lutheran background
A: Please come by and check out one of our services. You will not be expected to say or do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. Come to see what we're all about and participate in as much or as little of the service as you feel comfortable with. Please be sure to read about our communion policy in the service folder before participating in communion.
