Welcome

Our School

St. Paul Lutheran School is fully accredited by the National Lutheran School Accreditation Commission and has been given the status of a "Recognized" school by the State of Illinois. The school is supported and maintained by St. Paul Lutheran Church and is housed in a beautiful modern building. Facilities include a fully equipped gym that is used by PK-8, computer and science labs, art room, and library.

The teaching of the Lutheran Christian faith and values is found throughout all age levels and curricular areas. The strength of St. Paul lies in its Christian teachers and loving environment.

The Early Childhood program offers an outstanding program of age-appropriate activities for three, four and five year olds, combined with opportunities for parent education and involvement. The Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten have an abundance of educational toys and learning materials. Whole language and the "Math Their Way" program is used extensively in Kdg. and First Grade.

Our Primary Wing, First and Second Grade, continues the developmental emphasis that begins in Pre-Kindergarten. Whole language activities permeate the curriculum, with children having many opportunities for reading and writing in a colorful, stimulating environment.

A separate wing for Third, Fourth, and Fifth grades allows us to offer a challenging program, appropriate for this level.. The instruction in these grades mainly takes place in a self-contained classroom setting, with easy access to library and computer facilities. Fifth graders participate in an outdoor education program at Walcamp in the spring.

Our Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth grades are departmentalized, in a middle school setting, for some curricular areas such as Science, Math, and Social Studies. The Home Room teacher provides instruction in Religion and a double period of Language Arts. This arrangement allows for close monitoring of the progress of individual students.

Spanish, Computer Education, Pre-Algebra and Algebra are also offered at this level. Technology is incorporated into the curriculum at all levels.

A curriculum update plan provides for regular textbook replacement so that materials used by our students are current. All of our curriculum is developed according to the State of Illinois Mandates for education, ensuring a smooth transition to the next level of education for our students.

Student progress is monitored through an assessment plan consisting of the Stanford Achievement Tests and a process oriented assessment. We also receive regular reports from local high schools, detailing the progress of our graduates and we're extremely proud of their successes.

A Resource Teacher serves as a consultant to classroom teachers, enabling them to better instruct students with special learning needs. She also plans enrichment programs for other students. SRA labs, Accelerated Readers, and Great Books are a part of the enrichment program.

A Media-Technology teacher facilitates the integration of technology throughout the curriculum.

We have a comprehensive program of extracurricular activities, including athletics and band as well as an Academic Fair, Geography Bee and musical event.

Our extended care program continues to provide a warm, caring environment for our students before and after school. This program is available to Pre-Kindergarten (on days of attendance) and Kindergarten students as well as grades One through Eight. Bus service is also available.

A Parent Teacher group provides parents with opportunities for fellowship and schedules volunteers for the many activities such as Market Day, Computer Moms, weekly hot lunch, etc.

The Parish School Ministry which is the governing body of the school, holds monthly meetings which are open to parents.
